This past Sunday, the first ever eSports Shanghai Masters came to an end at the Jing'an Sports Center when the Shanhai Dragons, the local team, beat the Chengdu Hunters to become the inaugural champions of Overwatch.
The event was organized by the Shanghai eSports Association and game providers, and lasted over the course of four days. This was the city's first ever eSports league, which attracted more than 100 players hailing from China, Japan, South Korea, Europe, and North America.
Here, the players duked it out in four different events including Dungeon and Fighter (DNF) F1 World Championships, Overwatch, Warcraft III Reforged, and League of Legends.
Game operators will usually organize their own eSports competitions, but the Shanghai Masters provided third-party services such as referees, and a communication platform.
More than 5,000 fans attended the inaugural four-day eSports Shanghai Masters, and another 30 million online viewers through the Masters' online streaming service. In addition to the competitions, an eSports forum and an exhibition on the culture were held.
