A Korean Air passenger jet on Saturday made an emergency landing on its way from Incheon to Zurich, Switzerland due to malfunctioning communications equipment.
Korean Air flight 917 lost communication with air traffic control just 40 minutes before arrival and made an emergency landing in Stuttgart, Germany escorted by German Air Force jets.
Korean Air said the aircraft was able to use auxiliary communications equipment but decided to land due to safety concerns.
Meanwhile, an Asiana aircraft heading from Jeju Island to Cheongju was struck by lightning and hail on Friday afternoon, but it only chipped off some paint on the radar cone on the nose and none of the 190 passengers were injured.
